33. A Classroom Goes Up

Generally round the Sepik, Monday was Council workday when the villagers were required to work on such council projects as road repair, drainage, etc. If a school needed a classroom we could be flooded with workers who arrived in chattering hordes with the makings of a building - posts, saplings, branches of sago, etc. Under the right conditions (good weather and many pairs of hands), the progress made by the end of the day on a building could be quite astonishing.
